Intra-Asia Container Index Down 4% in International Shipping News 29/06/2026 Drewry’s Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) decreased 4% to $1,074 per 40ft container. IACI eases, but remains near double pre-conflict levels The Drewry Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI), the benchmark widely referenced by procurement teams, decreased 4% to $1,074 per 40ft container. Freight rates lowered, in particular on the lanes from Shanghai to Manila, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, and Laem Chabang. Nevertheless, freight rates continue to hover at double their pre-conflict levels, reflecting persistent cost pressures in the regional supply chains. Spot rates on trade lanes connecting China with Southeast Asia and South Asia declined this week. Rates from Shanghai to Manila fell 26% to $575 per 40ft container after rising 12% last week, as cargo volumes eased and shipping lines adjusted pricing. Meanwhile, rates from Shanghai to Jawaharlal Nehru Port declined 8% to $2,288 per 40ft container. Shanghai to Laem Chabang rates also decreased to $1,030, reflecting easing market conditions, following the US–Iran peace deal. Trade tensions between the US and China, combined with elevated tariff barriers, have continued to encourage supply-chain diversification. Manufacturers are increasingly expanding production capacity in East Asian and South Asian economies. In this context, Taiwanese forwarder and ship manager TVL Marine is re-entering the container shipping market after a seven-year hiatus, launching a new Hong Kong–Taiwan shuttle service this month. The company will deploy the 1,100 teu TVL Keelung on the route. Drewry expects freight rates to remain stable in the coming weeks.
