UK alternative investment platform Hayfin Capital Management has used its shipping war chest to grow its exposure in the capesize bulker segment. The London-based company has been linked to three purchases this year, which will take its cape fleet to five vessels. The latest reported move has been on Phoenix Energy Navigation’s 2009-built Corinthian Phoenix, which leaves the Greek company shipless. Hayfin, which also bought Phoenix Energy’s Athenian Phoenix and renamed it GH Leveche earlier this year, is reportedly paying around $30m for its next cape, which will be delivered in June and renamed GH Ostria. S&P market data shows the company has also recently picked up the 2013-built 180,700 dwt Urja for about $38m and renamed it GH Fitzgerald. The fast-growing outfit, which plans to invest in up to $1bn worth of shipping assets, mostly made headlines in the shipbuilding sector this year with orders for two post-panamaxes at Oshima Shipbuilding in Japan and calling options on two additional methanol-ready suezmax tankers at HD Hyundai in South Korea. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsUnited Kingdom
