A giant module for Ineos’ Project ONE ethane cracker has arrived at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The vessel Jin Xu Xiang 88 delivered the module from Abu Dhabi on 28 July. The structure stands 55 metres high, about the height of an 18-storey building, and weighs nearly 7,000 tonnes. According to the port, it is one of the largest pieces of project cargo handled in recent years. Another module, weighing just under 7,200 tonnes, is expected to arrive during the first half of August. The newly delivered module is one of the final components for Project ONE, Ineos’ new ethane cracker. Once installed, it will complete the main structure of the facility. The plant will convert ethane into ethylene, a key raw material used to manufacture products including medical devices, automotive components, wind turbines, solar panels and insulation materials. Construction of the project began with a groundbreaking ceremony in December 2022. According to Ineos, Project ONE is the largest investment in the European chemicals sector since 2000. The company expects the project to create around 450 jobs. Ineos also says the new ethane cracker will emit 50% less CO₂ than the 10% least carbon-intensive ethane crackers currently operating.
