Image Credit: UKMTO The Palau Ship Registry (PSR) has rejected media reports identifying the tanker Marivex as a Palau-flagged vessel at the time of an incident off Oman. The Marivex , formerly known as Arihant , was deleted from the Palau register on March 6, 2026 and was issued a Certificate of Closure of Registry on that date, PSR said in an email statement on Wednesday .  The clarification follows reports that US forces struck the vessel on Monday after alleging it had transited international waters in the Gulf of Oman en route to Iran, in breach of a US blockade on vessels entering or leaving the country. "Accordingly, on 8 June 2026, the date referenced in the relevant reports, the vessel did not hold valid registration certificates issued by the Republic of Palau," the registry said. PSR added that it has informed the relevant authorities and provided records confirming the vessel's deletion, while stressing its commitment to maintaining accurate vessel registration records and the integrity of the Palau flag. US forces also struck another tanker, Settebello , in the Gulf of Oman on Tuesday . US Central Command identified the vessel as Palau-flagged.
