After grabbing headlines last Monday by locking in one-year time charters for seven VLCCs at $76,900 per day — levels not seen for decades — more fireworks have followed from John Fredriksen-controlled Frontline’s busy chartering desk. Frontline has fixed out two modern VLCCs in the spot market. The 2018-built Front Princess has been fixed on subs to Nippon Global Tanker on a time charter basis for $127,001 per day, while the 2023-built Front Beauly has been fixed on subs to HMM at $137,807 per day. Both scrubber-fitted vessels are employed for periods of less than three months, according to data from Tankers International, marking a sharp jump from fixtures reported just five days earlier, which were roughly $50,000 per day lower for short spot voyages. The fixtures follow a sweeping VLCC reshuffle unveiled just weeks ago. Frontline has agreed to sell eight first-generation VLCCs, built between 2015 and 2016, for $831.5m, with deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. At the same time, the owner has lined up nine latest-generation, scrubber-fitted VLCC newbuildings from an affiliate of Fredriksen’s private vehicle Hemen Holding, at a combined cost of $1.224bn. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsNorway
