Image for representation purposes only Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that 28 ships, including oil tankers, container vessels, bulk carriers, etc., transited the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours. According to Iranian state media, the ships passed through the strategic waterway after obtaining permission from the IRGC. IRGC Navy’s Public Relations Office issued a statement which highlighted that the Persian Gulf belongs to Muslim countries in the region and cited the U.S. as an aggressor and cause of evil in the region. The IRGC Navy also said that it is continuously monitoring the Strait of Hormuz and exerting authority over the waterway to ensure safe passage for ships. The vessels’ transit was managed by Iran’s new system of traffic control in the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports by Iranian state media. Iran had also launched a regulatory agency this month to manage operations related to the Strait of Hormuz. The body, named “Persian Gulf Strait Authority” (PGSA), which is currently operational, has been placed under sanctions by the U.S, stating that through its formation, Iran wants to earn money and funnel revenue to the IRGC and support military operations. Trump also said that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and no tolls or fees should be imposed on it. He even threatened to blow up Oman if it tried to join hands with Iran over possible Strait of Hormuz control.
