File Image / Pixabay The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) has welcomed ABS , DNV and RINA as its first classification society members. MACN members agreed in April to open the network to classification societies, expanding its membership across the maritime industry, MACN said in an announcement yesterday. Classification societies are involved in several stages of a vessel’s life, including design, construction, surveys, maintenance and certification. Their involvement will give MACN access to technical expertise and wider industry networks as it works to tackle corruption risks in shipping. ABS, DNV and RINA will work with shipowners, operators, cargo interests, ports and other maritime companies through MACN initiatives. The network said their membership will also help improve information sharing and bring practical experience to its collective efforts to promote greater transparency and integrity across the industry. MACN was established in 2011 as a global business network working towards a maritime industry free of corruption and supporting fair trade. The network now has more than 225 members across the maritime value chain.
