Global Top 100 companies hit record $51.8 trillion market cap- PwC in World Economy News 04/05/2026 Market capitalisation of the Global Top 100 companies grew by 22% in the year to March 31, 2026, equivalent to $9.2 trillion, reaching a record $51.8 trillion, according to PwC’s latest Global Top 100 companies by market capitalisation report. Growth accelerated compared with the previous year, reflecting renewed momentum in the technology sector alongside strong gains in the industrials and materials sectors. The increase marks a step up from the prior period, when market capitalisation rose by 7%, or $2.8 trillion. The new record total means the Top 100 companies have delivered sustained growth over the past five years, producing a compound annual growth rate of around 10%. Growth was driven primarily by the United States, which remains the largest contributor to the Global Top 100, ahead of China and Saudi Arabia. The United States further strengthened its position within the Global Top 100, accounting for 75% of total market capitalisation, up from 73% a year earlier. Growth was broad-based across US listed companies, supported by strong equity market performance and robust investor appetite for equities. China retained its position as the second largest contributor to the Global Top 100, ahead of Saudi Arabia, with market capitalisation growth more modest compared with the United States. The UK saw growth of 24% in its aggregate market capitalisation from the previous year, despite falling to fifth place. Four companies are represented in the Top 100, spread across financial services, healthcare, energy and materials. HSBC gained 39%, AstraZeneca rose 33%, Shell increased 31% and Linde added 4%.
