American Club Circular No. 35/12 1 DECEMBER 12, 2012 CIRCULAR NO. 35/12 TO MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION Dear Member: AMERICAN CLUB LOSS PREVENTION TOOL: CLEAN SEAS: COMPLYING WITH MARPOL 73/78: NEW TRAINING MODULES FOR ANNEX II (NOXIOUS LIQUID SUBSTANCES IN BULK) AND ANNEX III (HARMFUL SUBSTANCES CARRIED IN PACKAGED FORM) Your Managers are pleased to report the release of two new modules of the Clean Seas: Complying with MARPOL 73/78 web-based e-learning tool. They cover Annex II and Annex III on noxious liquid substances in bulk and harmful substances carried in package form, respectively. Members now have access to five training modules for Annexes I through V of MARPOL 73/78, all of which have been developed in cooperation with IDESS Interactive Technologies. The Club’s MARPOL 73/78 e-learning modules are specifically designed to be user-friendly for seafarers, and are focused on the practical application of the MARPOL Convention onboard ship. The modules are accessible anywhere there is a connection to the internet, making it easy and convenient for seafarers to study the subject matter before they join their ships. The system also includes a secure online testing facility. Members can track their seafarers’ knowledge and keep up-to-date records of familiarization training in compliance with both the STCW Convention and the company’s safety management system requirements under the ISM Code. All Members with owner entries in the American Club have access to all of the Club’s e-learning training programs via the website https://secure.idessonline.com/americanclub/facility/, free of charge, as well as the ability to purchase, if preferred, a shipboard based ‘Plug and Play’ (PnP) system.
