The United States has announced a new package of tariff measures affecting imports from more than 60 countries, alongside additional duties targeting products from Canada and Brazil. The measures include new Section 301 tariffs and country-specific duties. Their application depends on the product’s tariff classification, country of origin and any available exemptions. From 24 July 2026, imports from 60 countries became subject to additional Section 301 tariffs ranging from 10% to 12.5%. The 10% tariff applies to imports from Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Kingdom. A 12.5% tariff applies to imports from countries including Brazil, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, the Philippines, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Norway. The U.S. Government also announced an additional 50% tariff on certain Canada-origin products. The measure is scheduled to take effect on 19 August 2026. According to the White House, some goods may be subject to the tariff even if they qualify under the USMCA. However, several product categories, including energy products, potash, critical minerals and goods already covered by Section 232 measures, are excluded. Separately, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) imposed an additional 25% tariff on selected Brazil-origin goods from 22 July 2026. The U.S. Government also introduced modified tariff treatment for imports from the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland and Taiwan, instead of applying the standard 10% or 12.5% rates. Maersk advised customers to review product classifications, verify countries of origin and monitor further guidance from USTR and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to assess the impact on supply chains.
