Before Britain’s 2016 referendum on EU membership, trade between Germany and Britain had been growing. German exports to Britain rose by nearly 38% between 2006 and 2015, surpassing the roughly 20% increase in exports to other EU member states during that timeframe. IW researchers said Brexit has proven economically damaging for both countries.
