Regional Container Lines (RCL) has taken delivery of ANITTA BHUM , the first vessel in an eight-ship series of 4,488-TEU containerships being built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding in China. The delivery was marked by a ceremony in Guangzhou on 24 September, during which RCL also named two other vessels from the series, BENYAPAR BHUM and CHANTISA BHUM . While ANITTA BHUM was handed over on the same day, the other two ships are scheduled for delivery on 19 October and 20 November, respectively. New vessels to strengthen three RCL services RCL plans to deploy the three newbuildings across different parts of its network. ANITTA BHUM will shortly sail from Shanghai to join the carrier’s Far East–Latin America Service (AFL), connecting East Asia with Latin America. Once delivered in October, BENYAPAR BHUM will be assigned to the Far East–Madras Service 2 (RFM2), serving trade between Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. CHANTISA BHUM will follow in November and operate on the South China–Indonesia Service (RCI02), strengthening RCL’s connections between South China and Southeast Asia. The three vessels represent the first deliveries from RCL’s wider order for eight 4,488-TEU ships at the Chinese shipyard. Newbuildings offer alternative-fuel flexibility RCL has equipped the new series with energy-saving technologies aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing emissions. The vessels also feature Alternative Maritime Power capability, enabling them to use shore-side electricity while berthed at suitably equipped ports. In addition, the ships are designed to be ready for LNG, methanol and ammonia dual-fuel systems. RCL said this flexibility will allow the vessels to adopt alternative marine fuels as part of the carrier’s longer-term fleet development strategy. With ANITTA BHUM now delivered and two sister ships due to follow over the next two months, RCL is beginning the rollout of a new vessel series that will support several key trades
