Greek bulker owner and operator DryDel Shipping is expanding its fleet in a comeback to Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding with a new contract for another ultramax newbuild. “This addition to our fleet marks another significant investment in Japanese ultramax newbuild tonnage,” the company said. The new deal for the EEDI Phase 3 compliant vessel will be DryDel’s fourth at Tsuneishi and its affiliated yards after signing up for a scrubber-fitted eco-friendly unit in May last year. The three earlier contracted ships should join the fleet in 2025 and 2026. Formerly known as Meadway Shipping and Trading, DryDel contracted its first ship under the new brand at Shin Kurushima Dockyard in April. The 64,000 dwt ultramax will be delivered in 2026. No price has been revealed for the Tess66 Aeroline design 66,000 dwt vessel Costas Dellaportas-led outfit expects to deliver in 2028. The latest order will be DryDel’s 11th newbuilding project since December 2021, with two handysize bulkers delivered from Namura earlier this year.
