Italian renewable energy firm Renexia has signed a deal with China’s Mingyang for FEED work on the 2.8GW Med Wind floating wind farm 80 km off the coast of Sicily. Mingyang has been selected to power the wind farm with 18MW MySE turbines, for which integrated load analysis has already begun and whose prototype is already successfully operating. The contract follows the joint signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Italian Ministry of Enterprises to develop a factory in Italy for the turbines, worth over 1,300 new jobs. Med Wind was supposed to be developed on an 850 sq km site with 190 turbines but that number was later shrunk to 148, further reducing environmental impact and maintenance costs. When fully developed, the floating wind farm will generate 9 TWh of electricity per year which will be able to power around 3.4m households. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsChina Italy Offshore Wind
