Hapag-Lloyd will introduce a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on shipments moving from the Far East, Indian Subcontinent, Red Sea and Middle East to Australia. The surcharge will apply to all container types and will take effect for sailings commencing on July 15, 2026, remaining in force until further notice. Under the revised tariff structure, the carrier will charge USD 500 per TEU across the affected trade lanes. The geographical scope of the surcharge covers cargo originating from the Far East, the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent and Red Sea destinations, including Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Yemen, destined for Australia. The announcement reflects ongoing efforts by carriers to manage seasonal demand fluctuations and operational costs across Asia–Australia trade routes.
