britanniapandi.com Transport Canada have published the details of their mandatory and voluntary seasonal speed restriction zones for 2026, taking effect between 22 April and 15 November 2026. The speed restrictions apply to all ships greater than 13.0 metres in length, where speed over the ground shall be no more than 10.0 knots, unless stated otherwise. The speed restriction zones are a mixture of ‘static’ and ‘dynamic’ zones, with full details published in Ship Safety Bulletin No. 02/2026. We encourage ships trading in this area to review the safety bulletin and ensure that the latest navigational warnings and notices to mariners are being received, as these will be used confirm the current status of the ‘dynamic shipping zones’ and ‘seasonal management areas’. The bulletin also provides full details of voluntary slow down areas and provides reporting information should a North Atlantic Right Whale be observed.
