Image Credit: Klaipeda Port Authority Klaipeda Port has officially opened Lithuania 's first green hydrogen production and refuelling facility. The facility uses a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyser to produce green hydrogen and has an annual production capacity of about 127 mt ,   Klaipeda Port Authority said in an email statement on Monday .  Development of the project began in 2023 , with construction starting in summer 2025 . The first green hydrogen was produced at the site in April this year. The hydrogen will be supplied to passenger vehicles, heavy-duty transport, ships and port operations. About one quarter of the hydrogen produced will be used by the port authority itself, including for a new hydrogen-powered waste collection vessel . The facility is designed as open infrastructure and is expected to support wider adoption of hydrogen across Lithuania's transport and logistics sectors. Commercial hydrogen supply is scheduled to begin in autumn 2026 . The project cost is estimated at about €12 million , with roughly half funded through the European Union's NextGenerationEU recovery and resilience programme.
