Nasdaq-listed Greek bulker outfit Icon Energy has built up financial firepower for future vessel acquisitions as it takes delivery of its first-bought kamsarmax since its IPO earlier this year. The Ismini Panagiotidi-led company said it has about $75m ready for potential fleet expansion as part of a $91.5m loan deal with one of the leading international borrowers. Icon had already taken $16.5m earlier this month to finance a part of the purchase price of the freshly delivered 2007-built Bravo and to leverage its existing panamax bulker. This portion of the loan has a four-year tenor and interest at 3.95% over SOFR. The balance amount of $75m remains uncommitted, free of interest or other fees, and Icon is not obliged to borrow it, the company said. Athens-based Icon Energy was set up in August last year and had one 2006 Japanese-built 77,326 dwt bulker Alfa (pictured) brought in from Pavimar in exchange for shares prior to the kamsarmax purchase in August this year. The Bravo has already been fixed to a commodity trading conglomerate between 11 and 14 months. Commenting on the latest developments, Ismini Panagiotidi, chairwoman and CEO of Icon, said the company remains committed to growing through “disciplined and opportunistic vessel acquisitions” and that in its first steps towards that goal, it is “thrilled to enjoy” the support of charterers as well as the trust of financiers, not only in financing the existing fleet but also in providing upsize options for further growth.” googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsGreece
