The offshore drilling unit of Malaysia’s Velesto Energy has won a contract for one of its jackup rigs from compatriot Petronas Carigali. The Malaysian oil and gas company hired Velesto’s 2009-built Naga 2 jackup rig. The drilling activities already started in February and will last for a firm period of five years. The contract is expected to contribute positively to the group’s rig utilisation and earnings visibility from 2026 to 2030. The contract aligns with Velesto’s focus on disciplined execution across its operating markets in Southeast Asia and Malaysia. The rig is an independent-leg cantilever jack-up drilling rig with a drilling depth capability of over 9 km and has a rated operating water depth of over 100 m. This deal comes only days after Velesto won a contract for the 2015-built Naga 8 jackup from Singapore-based oil and gas player Jadestone Energy.
