Japan’s largest power utility Jera has signed a landmark 27-year LNG supply deal with QatarEnergy, marking the renewal of a trading relationship that had steadily waned in recent years. Under the agreement, Jera will purchase around 3m tons of LNG per year, QatarEnergy announced at a signing ceremony in Doha on Tuesday. The deal revives long-term Qatari exports to Japan, which had fallen to 3.3m tons last year from roughly 10m tons in 2017. The long-duration contract – one of the most extensive for a Japanese buyer in years – represents a strategic boost for both sides.
