Image Credit: IMO The IMO has condemned a US attack on a tanker off the coast of Oman on Wednesday that caused at least one casualty. A US aircraft fired upon the 42,700 DWT tanker Settebello about 20 nautical miles north-east of Sohar at 9:30 AM UTC on Wednesday. The vessel had been in breach against the US blockade against vessels that have visited Iran, and the attack came 'after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces', US Central Command said in a social media post. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency said the attack caused one casualty and left two crew members missing. IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez released a statement criticising the attack. “I strongly condemn any act from any party that endangers the lives of seafarers and the safety of international shipping," Dominguez said. "This is simply unacceptable. "My thoughts are with the families of the three missing seafarers and with all those awaiting news of the crew members.” Ship & Bunker News Team To contact the editor responsible for this story email us at [email protected] Also in the News LD Armateurs Launches Wind-Assisted Methanol-Fuelled RoRo Vessel The vessel will be chartered to aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
