Sonangol is stepping up its move into LNG shipping, placing an order for two more carriers at HD Hyundai Samho. Parent group HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) said the contract covers two 174,000-cbm LNG vessels, worth KRW770.2bn ($511m). Delivery is set by the end of September 2029. The latest deal follows an earlier order this year for a single vessel of the same size at the yard, valued at about $245m and due for delivery by mid-2028. Taken together, Sonangol now has three LNG carriers on order at HD Hyundai Samho. The Angolan state energy company currently operates a small LNG fleet of five vessels. Three of those ships were built in 2011 by Hanwha Ocean, while the rest of its fleet is mainly crude and product tankers.
