Seafarer Risk Under the Spotlight, Again in International Shipping News 28/03/2026 Seafarers continue to operate under heightened risk linked to ongoing global tensions. For many, the conditions at sea are becoming more complex and less predictable, while their role in keeping global trade moving remains unchanged. Wellbeing, welfare and safety cannot sit at the margins of decision-making in this context. At SSI, we continue to work with members and partners to support practical progress, focusing on where change can be applied and sustained. As we approach the end of Q1, 2026 is already proving to be a year of delivery for SSI, with tangible progress underway across our platforms: Commercial Pathways to Transition, Human Risk and Resilience, and Ocean Impact and Implementation. We are seeing stronger alignment across members, more active engagement through working groups, and growing momentum across the industry. This progress is being supported by a new and expanding team, strengthening our ability to deliver at pace Our focus now is to ensure this momentum translates into results felt not just at the board level but in the day-to-day reality of those working at sea. In this edition: SSI’s Welfare, Wellbeing and Safety Data Mapping Meet SSI’s Newest Team Members Industry Input Needed for Vessel Selection Survey Coming Up at SSI A Call for Industry Input SSI has developed a draft mapping of existing safety, welfare and wellbeing data sources, bringing together inspections, surveys, insurers, welfare organisations, and research initiatives – we are now asking you to tell us what’s missing so we can build a definitive resource.
