Drydocks World has landed a milestone contract from Amigo LNG to deliver what will become the world’s largest floating LNG facility off Mexico. The DP World-owned yard will convert two LNG carriers into floating storage units (FSUs) and build two new FLNG barges at its Dubai base. Once operational in 2028, the four-vessel set-up will provide more than 4.2m tonnes per year of LNG production capacity, surpassing any current floating LNG development. Amigo LNG is a joint venture between Singapore’s LNG Alliance and Texas-based Epcilon LNG. The project will be located off Guaymas, Sonora, and supplied with feed gas from the US Permian Basin. Its location on Mexico’s Pacific coast will shorten shipping distances to Asia and Latin America compared with Gulf Coast terminals. The EPC scope includes integration of US liquefaction technology and gas pre-treatment systems, designed to ensure high-capacity and continuous production.
