A Turkey-flagged general cargo vessel, that has been stranded for more than two years in Ukraine was struck by missiles in the port of Kherson. The missiles, likely launched by Russian forces, rocked the 1990-built Kuruoglu 3 owned by the Istanbul-based Kuruoglu Denizcilik while moored at the port. The 7,634 dwt vessel arrived in Kherson on February 22, 2022, and got stuck due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent closure of the port. Maritime security specialists Ambrey cited the owner as saying two missiles hit the vessel’s starboard side, causing it to start taking on water. According to the owner’s statement, the ship is secured by ropes, and it is only a matter of time before they break and the ship sinks. Ambrey said in its note on Wednesday it was aware that numerous vessels stranded in the Mykolaiv and Kherson ports had been struck and damaged over the last two years.
