AUTORIDAD DEL CANAL DE PANAMÁ EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENCY FOR OPERATIONS 3654-A (OPXI) v. 3-2-2011 ADVISORIES ARE AVAILABLE AT http://www.pancanal.com FOR ETAS OR DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH OUR OFFICES, REFER TO NOTICE N-3-2014 ADVISORY TO SHIPPING No. A-08-2014 April 21, 2014 TO : All Shipping Agents, Owners, and Operators SUBJECT: Unscheduled Panama Canal Locks Lane Outage and the Transit Reservation System Beginning Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 0001 hours through Thursday, May 1 , 2014, at 2400 hours, dredging operations will be conducted at the Gatun Lake entrance on the East side of Pedro Miguel Locks between the center wall and the East prism line, and north of the center wall. This dredging work is necessary for the removal of shoals, which have become critical due to the low level of Gatun Lake. During this period, the East lane at Pedro Miguel Locks will be closed to allow the dredging equipment to operate uninterrupted. The West lane of Pedro Miguel Locks will also require an outage for dredging operations, tentatively scheduled for May 9 - 11, 2014. As a result, and in accordance with the rules governing the Transit Reservation System (OP’s Notice to Shipping No. N-7- 2013), Condition 2 will be in effect from Tuesday, April 29, 2014 through Thursday, May 1, 2014. Applications for reserved transits while Condition 2 is in effect will be received beginning at 0900 hours on Saturday, April 26, 2014. The Just-In-Time (JIT) slots available for supers will be reduced during this period to one slot per direction. Nevertheless, JIT transit slots previously confirmed will be honored. The JIT slots available for regular vessels transiting without restrictions, as well as the booking slot available through the Auction Process, and the slots available for regular vessels less than 300 feet in LOA, will continue to be offered during this period.
