FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin A collision between the offshore vessel Wind Orca and the berthed container ship BG Orange at the Port of Tyne has damaged a quayside crane, disrupted port operations, and released plastic pellets into the River Tyne, prompting an extensive clean-up operation. The incident occurred at around 1300 local time on July 19 as Wind Orca was leaving the dock. The impact caused significant damage to a gantry crane and damaged containers onboard BG Orange, releasing a quantity of small plastic resin pellets, known as nurdles, into the river. One person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while no other casualties were reported.
