Swire Shipping has announced a series of General Rate Increases (GRIs) covering cargo shipments to Townsville and Darwin in Australia, as well as Dili in Timor-Leste, citing continued increases in operating costs and vessel charter rates. The revised rates will apply to cargo with a bill of lading date on or after June 25, 2026. For shipments to Townsville, Australia, the carrier will introduce a surcharge of USD 300 per 20-foot container and USD 600 per 40-foot container. Cargo destined for Darwin, Australia, will be subject to a GRI of USD 200 per 20-foot container and USD 400 per 40-foot container. Meanwhile, shipments to Dili, Timor-Leste, will face an increase of USD 150 per 20-foot container and USD 300 per 40-foot container. The adjustments apply to cargo originating worldwide and moving to the respective destinations. Swire Shipping said the rate increases are necessary to offset continued pressure from rising operating expenses and vessel charter costs while supporting the company’s service network and port coverage. The carrier added that shipments on trade lanes regulated by the Federal Maritime Commission will remain subject to the applicable regulatory notice requirements.
