Image for representation purposes only The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that they launched missiles and drones at a U.S air and helicopter base in one of the neighbouring countries and also attacked the headquarters of the U.S Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Iran also said that it attacked American targets in the region in response to a U.S. strike on an Iranian oil tanker and other IRGC facilities. IRGC also attacked a second MSC ship named Panaya, saying it belongs to the ‘American Zionist Enemy’ while MSC released a statement calling itself a ‘neutral international carrier.’ The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) dismissed the claims by posting on the social media platform X. CENTCOM stated, “CLAIM: Iran is now claiming it has targeted a US Navy destroyer in the Gulf of Oman.” “TRUTH: Iran is lying. US military assets at sea continue to fly, sail, and operate safely and unimpeded.” The IRGC added that Washington had also targeted its telecommunications towers south of Qeshm Island. The statement ended by repeated warnings that any action against Iran or disruption in the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a stricter response, and the U.S will have to bear the cost of its actions. In another incident, Iran has said that it successfully attacked an American military vessel functioning as a command and control centre in the Sea of Oman when it tried to enter Iran’s territorial waters. The development was reported hours after Iran fired missiles and drones at American military facilities across Kuwait and Bahrain. The Kuwait International Airport was damaged, and an Indian citizen was killed in the attack. Many missiles also fell in residential places, though the IRGC denied any involvement in the airfield bombardment. Neighbouring countries came forward with the harshest criticisms towards Iran, condemning its actions as ‘astonishing’ and ‘unjustifiable’.
