Rhenus has reported strong growth in freight volumes from Spain to Latin America, as Spanish companies increase their activity across the region. The logistics provider said its export volumes on the trade corridor increased by more than 30% year-on-year in 2026. Growth was recorded across both air and ocean freight, making Spain one of the strongest-performing European markets in the company’s network on the route. “Behind these figures lies a very clear reality: more and more Spanish companies are making Latin America part of their growth strategies,” said Monica Ruebenkoenig, Route Development Manager at Rhenus Air & Ocean. Industrial cargo drives ocean freight Industrial sectors continue to play a major role in freight flows between Spain and Latin America. According to Rhenus, raw materials and chemicals represent more than 60% of the company’s ocean export volumes from Spain to the region. At the same time, Rhenus is seeing more mid-sized Spanish industrial companies expand into Latin American markets. Previously, much of this activity was concentrated among larger multinational businesses. The company said this expansion is increasing demand for logistics networks that provide greater visibility and flexibility while allowing customers to scale across several markets. “As these businesses expand across multiple markets, their logistics requirements are becoming increasingly sophisticated,” said Marc Ortega, Head of Sales Spain at Rhenus Air & Ocean. He highlighted supply chain visibility, stronger operational control and faster responses to disruptions among the requirements increasingly sought by customers.
