Belgium’s Euronav is offloading one of its very large crude carriers for conversion into a floating production, storage, and offloading vessel. The Alexander Saverys-led dual-listed owner said in its quarterly earnings statement that a deal had been struck with a subsidiary of Total Energies for the 2012 Samsung-built Alsace. The 299,999 dwt ship, estimated as worth about $72.5m, should exit the fleet in the first quarter of 2025 and bring in a profit of $27.5m, Euronav said. Details about where the converted VLCC would be deployed were not divulged. In May, the French energy major, together with partners Petronas and Sonangol, made a final investment decision on its Kaminho deepwater project in Angola, which will feature an FPSO unit converted from a VLCC. Euronav had sold and delivered three VLCCs earlier this year at a profit of $79m booked in the second quarter. The 2008-built Nectar and Noble, as well as the 2009-built Newton, have exited the fleet. In addition, the company has bagged three long-term charter deals worth about $161m in total. One of its newbuild suezmaxes has been fixed for five years, with the charter starting in the third quarter of this year upon vessel’s delivery. Meanwhile, the 2009-built suezmax Fraternity, previously reported by brokers as sold to NGM Energy of Greece for $51m but not confirmed by Euronav, has been chartered out for two years. A long-term fixture has also been secured for one of the chemical tankers delivering in 2027. Chilean operator Ultratank will take the vessel on charter for seven years. A deal has also been agreed for Ultratank to take another sister vessel under commercial management upon delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025. The Antwerp-based tanker giant, which reported a year-to-date profit of nearly $680m and a backlog of $2.06bn, is rebranding to CMB.TECH after more than 25 years. The name change will officially take place in October. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); }); TagsBelgium
