Malaysian offshore service provider Icon Offshore said on Monday that an explosion occurred on its Icon Amara platform supply vessel which led to two fatalities. The incident on the Icon Amara occurred on August 2 at approximately 10:30 pm local time at the Sapar Alpha platform near Bintulu. The incident resulted in two fatalities and one crewman being seriously injured. Icon’s emergency response team was immediately mobilised to support the affected crew members and their next of kin. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and our deepest sympathies to the injured and their families. The company is committed to offering all possible assistance during this difficult time,” the company said in a statement. Icon added that it was revealing this news only now because it was working with the client and the relevant authorities to “ensure all information was accurate and appropriately handled”. An investigation into the incident’s cause is underway.
