Steve Gordon, Global Head of Clarksons Research, said in the company’s latest update on 27 July that vessels transiting the Bab El Mandeb averaged 31 per day on 25-26 July, representing a decline of around 50% in tonnage terms compared with the second-quarter average. VLCC crossings through the strait also fell to around one per day over the past week, compared with three per day in Q2.
