FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin In this edition of our special column, we are pleased to feature the career journey of Tristan Smith, Co-lead of the Shipping and Oceans Research Group and Professor of Energy and Transport at UCL. As he explains, he knew from an early age that he wanted to pursue a career connected to the sea. He also describes his PhD as a valuable investment that equipped him with highly useful and transferable skills. Looking to the future of the maritime industry, Tristan hopes to see progress that is at least aligned with the ambitions of the IMO’s 2023 GHG Strategy and supported by effective policy measures. Finally, he advises young professionals to follow their interests, remain open to unexpected opportunities and focus on listening rather than interrupting.
