Image Credit: LR Lloyd’s Register (LR) has identified 200,000 m3 LNG carriers as a viable option for the next phase of fleet renewal. An LR Advisory study for GTT , presented at Gastech 2026 , assessed the vessels against global LNG terminals and modelled their commercial performance on Atlantic and Pacific routes, LR said in an emailed update on Wednesday . The study found 88 LNG terminals could accommodate 200,000 m3 carriers, compared with 97 for conventional 174,000 m3 vessels. LR said the accessible network still includes many major LNG hubs across Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and the Middle East . Vessel beam was found to be the key factor in terminal compatibility, alongside draft and displacement, while three- and four-tank designs showed no material difference. The commercial assessment indicated potential owner benefits of around $85.5 million over 30 years , supported by higher cargo capacity and improved transport efficiency.
