FacebookTwitterEmailLinkedin The Swedish Coast Guard took control of a cargo vessel on 6 March in the Baltic Sea in Swedish sea territory outside the city of Trelleborg and has detained one crew member. According to the Coast Guard, the overall assessment supported by national and international legislation, is that the vessel which flies a false Guinean flag, is effectively stateless. As a result, the principle of innocent passage does not apply. The vessel is suspected to be unseaworthy because no flag state can vouch for its compliance with maritime safety standards.
