Malaysian offshore vessel owner Keyfield International has signed a contract with Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and Fujian Funing Shipbuilding for the construction of a new dynamic DP2 anchor handling tug supply vessel. The contract was signed through Keyfield’s wholly owned subsidiary Keyfield Resolute. The deal for the diesel-electric engine is $18m (RM72.5m). The company stated that the new AHTS is part of Keyfield’s strategy to allocate more resources and increase exposure to AHTS while maintaining its core strength in accommodation workboats. “As our existing AHTS are largely committed to or earmarked for long-term charters, the New DP2 AHTS will expand available AHTS capacity and allow us to pursue new tender and spot charter opportunities without affecting existing commitments,” Keyfield explained in a Bursa Malaysia filing.
