Swedish power-to-fuel player Liquid Wind has been selected by German utility Uniper to develop a new e-methanol facility in Sweden to produce fuel for shipping and chemical industries. Located in the municipality of Östersund, the project called NorthStarH2 is expected to deliver more than 100,000 tonnes of e-methanol, Düsseldorf-headquartered Uniper said. Once operational, the facility will convert biogenic carbon dioxide and renewable electricity into fossil-free e-fuel. “NorthStarH2 shows clearly that Sweden continues to drive the green transition with the help of the country’s renewable sources, and that eFuel will play a crucial role in electrifying numerous sectors such as shipping, aviation and chemical industries,” said Claes Fredriksson, CEO and founder of Liquid Wind.
