Floating wind turbine developer SeaTwirl has signed a memorandum of understanding with UK offshore oil and gas operator Serica Energy to explore the feasibility of electrification of offshore assets and oil and gas activities. SeaTwirl and Serica Energy will work on identifying and assessing potential opportunities to decarbonise offshore oil and gas production and other associated offshore electrification opportunities using renewable power and, where applicable, subsea energy storage. Working together to collate data from Serica’s operations will allow SeaTwirl to assess the commercial viability and suitability of SeaTwirl technology for offshore assets. “We will explore a range of options with a clear ambition to develop an electrification solution that could be the first of its kind in the industry,” said Johan Sandberg, CEO of SeaTwirl. Serica is a top ten UK producer with a portfolio of oil and gas-producing assets focused on the UK’s North Sea. The company’s two top assets are Bruce and Triton areas.
