Compared with January 2025, industrial production decreased by 1.2% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU. In the euro area in January, production of non-durable consumer goods saw the steepest decline, falling by 6.0%. Capital goods production decreased by 2.3%, while intermediate goods fell by 1.9% and durable consumer goods dropped by 1.9%. Energy production bucked the trend, rising by 4.7%. The EU recorded similar patterns, with non-durable consumer goods down by 6.0%, intermediate goods falling by 2.0%, capital goods decreasing by 2.3%, and durable consumer goods declining by 1.9%. Energy production increased by 4.2%. Ireland recorded the largest monthly decrease at 9.8%, followed by Luxembourg at 4.3% and Sweden at 4.1%. Portugal posted the highest increase at 4.2%, with Latvia rising by 3.3% and Lithuania gaining 2.7%. On an annual basis, the euro area saw intermediate goods production fall by 2.1%, while energy rose by 5.8% and capital goods increased by 1.1%. Durable consumer goods declined by 3.5% and non-durable consumer goods fell by 6.4%. In the EU, intermediate goods decreased by 2.2% year-on-year, while energy increased by 5.2% and capital goods rose by 1.7%. Durable consumer goods fell by 3.5% and non-durable consumer goods declined by 4.5%. Luxembourg recorded the steepest annual decline at 14.9%, followed by Ireland at 13.1% and Bulgaria at 8.6%.
