Tax laws in Nigeria were amended several years ago and the authorities can impose taxes to international shipping companies against income derived from Nigeria. The Federal Inland Revenue Service of Nigeria is demanding that shipowners or operators pay taxes for their ‘business activities’ (cargo carriage) in Nigeria.
