This outage is required for repairs to the cutwater of the rising stem valves 242 and 243. In preparation for this outage, the West lane of Gatun Locks will be closed for eight (8) hours, from approximately 2200 hours on Monday, March 17, 2014, to 0600 hours on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 for the installation of bulkheads. After the culvert maintenance work is completed, the West lane of Gatun Locks will again be closed for eight (8) hours, from approximately 2200 hours on Thursday, March 27, 2014, to 0600 hours on Friday, March 28, 2014 for the removal of bulkheads. During the sidewall culvert repair period, Gatun Locks will operate with a single culvert on the West lane. Consequently, all lockages in this lane will take longer than usual. As a result, and in accordance with the rules governing the Transit Reservation System (OP’s Notice to Shipping No. N-7- 2014), Condition 1.a will be in effect from March 18, 2014, until March 27, 2014. Applications for reserved transits while Condition 1.a is in effect will be received beginning at 0900 hours on Saturday, March 15, 2014. The booking slot available through the Auction Process and the slots available for regular vessels less than 300 feet in length, as well as the Just-in-Time Transit service, will continue to be offered during this period.
