Greece’s Atlas Maritime has been identified as the owner behind a shipbuilding contract for three very large ammonia carriers in South Korea. Shipbuilding sources said the Leon Patitsas-led company had booked a 93,000 cu m trio at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, delivering by December 2027. The vessels, that lift Atlas’ orderbook to nearly 20 ships are worth about $124m each. This year kicked off with high demand for LPG/ammonia carrier newbuild berths, especially in South Korea. Several Greek players had made headlines in the past couple of months, including George Economou’s TMS Cardiff and Anna Angelicoussis Kanellakis-controlled Alpha Gas.
