market_report Dry bulk Markets & trade Splash247
It has been a relatively quiet few weeks across most sectors with global geopolitical and macroeconomic uncertainties still to be unravelled. Tariffs, the wait to see what the US Trade Representative was going to do about Chinese tonnage, and concerns the world is heading for a recession have all put the brakes on sale and purchase deals this month. In dry bulk, Taiwanese owner and operator Wisdom Marine sold two Japanese-built bulkers for about $36m in total. The Taipei-based company is offloading the 2011 Shin Kasado Dock-built ultramax Amis Wisdom III and the 2015 Shimanami-built handysize Bunun Hero. The ultramax is going to China’s Arm Shipping for about $17.5m, while Turkey’s Manta Shipping has picked up the handy for $18.5m. China’s Winking Shipping purchased its second newcastlemax, acquiring the 14-year-old, Imabari-built, 206,300 dwt HL Saijo for just under $38m on bareboat hire purchase terms from Japan’s Doun Kisen. In tankers, cash-rich Asyad Shipping, formerly known as Oman Shipping Co, has just completed a deal for a pair of VLCCs, the first modern supertankers to change hands for 11 months. Brokers link Asyad Shipping to the acquisition of the 2020-built sisterships, Landbridge Wisdom and Landbridge Glory. The ships were built at Dalian Shipbuilding and have gone for $205m en bloc, setting a new price benchmark. DHT Holdings, a New York-listed tanker giant, confirmed the sale of two Chinese-built VLCCs. DHT sold the 2011-built DHT Lotus and the DHT Peony for a combined price of $103m. The continuing uncertainty has not really rocked the S&P boat for the container sector. The 2010-built, 4,250 teu Navios Tempo has been committed to MSC on private terms basis a charter free delivery in August-October 2025. A number of non-Chinese built 2,500-2,800 teu vessels sold to Greek buyers after being on the market for a few weeks while Contships concluded the sale of its 2008-built 1,118 teu vessel Contship Win on private terms.
