IMB piracy and armed robbery report for 2025 We have received the piracy and armed robbery report for 2025 from the International Maritime Bureau Piracy Reporting Centre (IMB PRC) together with the summary below. For more details, please refer to the attached files.   Summary A total of 137 incidents reported to the IMB Piracy reporting Centre between Jan – Dec 2025. These are broken down as 121 vessels boarded, 10 attempted attacks, four vessels hijacked and two fired upon. Violence against and the threat to crews continues with 46 crew taken hostage, 25 crew kidnapped, 10 threatened, four injured and three assaulted.   Most of the successful incidents were reported while vessels were steaming. This included the hijacking of two fishing vessels and a dhow. Two tankers boarded in November around 400nm off Somalia. While one tanker was able to avert the boarding the other was boarded and the crew had to retreat into the citadel and later safeguarded by a coalition naval vessel. The presence of coalition forces continues to deter Somali pirates, Masters are however urged to remain vigilant and follow the latest Best Management Practices, as pirates remain capable of striking vessels at significant distances from shore. The IMB acknowledges the coalition’s active patrolling and robust responses to piracy and encourages their continued presence in these waters.   Gulf of Guinea The IMB commends the Gulf of Guinea Authorities for the efforts leading to another year
