As a result, the ICS has recently issued a guidance for shipowners, Compliance with the 2020 ‘Global Sulphur Cap’. It provides an overview of the upcoming requirements with recommendations on developing an implementation plan to meet the mandatory deadline of January 1, 2020. The ICS guidance assumes that the owner/operator has chosen to achieve compliance through the use of fuel oil with a sulphur content of 0.50% m/m or less (such as 0.50% blends or 0.10% distillate). Your Managers recommend that Members take note of the Guidance, and be guided accordingly.
