At the end of last week, US tanker owner International Seaways revealed it had agreed to acquire a 2020-built, scrubber-fitted VLCC for $119m. Brokers have now identified the seller as Greece’s Evalend Shipping, controlled by Kriton Lentoudis, and the vessel as the Halcyon, a 300,000 dwt Hyundai Samho-built unit. The deal marks the first reported modern VLCC sale in over a month. For comparison, new Chinese-built tonnage in this segment is currently offered about $4m cheaper, with 2026 delivery dates. Evalend secured the Halcyon for $91.5m six years ago, according to VesselsValue, leaving the company with three same-aged VLCCs.
