US crude oil inventories drop 8 million barrels, EIA reports in Oil & Companies News 05/06/2026 US crude oil stockpiles decreased by 8 million barrels to 433.7 million barrels during the week that ended on May 29, the Energy Information Administration reported Wednesday. The decline exceeded analyst forecasts, which had predicted a 4 million-barrel reduction. Crude stocks at the Cushing, Oklahoma delivery hub fell by 583,000 barrels during the same period, according to the EIA. Gasoline inventories rose by 3.4 million barrels to reach 215 million barrels. Analysts had expected a drawdown of 0.5 million barrels. Distillate stockpiles, which include diesel and heating oil, increased by 1.5 million barrels to 102.3 million barrels. Market expectations had called for a decrease of 0.3 million barrels. Refinery crude runs fell by 90,000 barrels per day, while refinery utilization rates rose by 0.2 percentage points to 94.7% during the week.
