Swedish utility Vattenfall has signed a multi-year framework contract with Dutch marine construction player Van Oord to charter the MPI Resolution jackup vessel for offshore wind turbine maintenance. This contract will guarantee the vessel’s availability for several months each year, primarily during the peak maintenance season from early March to late October. This contract also has an option to extend beyond the initial term. The vessel will be tasked with servicing Vattenfall turbines of up to 5MW in size across Northern Europe and the UK. Wind turbines have rotating components and inevitably experience wear and tear over time, necessitating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. The jackup vessel charter will contribute to maintaining Vattenfall’s offshore turbines. “This new long-term frame agreement for heavy maintenance, succeeding the previous four-year frame agreement, ensures continuous utilisation of our MPI Resolution in this growing O&M market,” said Arnoud Kuis, managing director of offshore energy at Van Oord.
