Turkey’s Aygaz is stepping up its move into deepsea gas shipping, adding two more vessels to its fledgling very large gas carrier (VLGC) programme in South Korea. The Istanbul-based LPG distributor said it has signed a deal with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for two dual-fuel LPG carriers of about 90,000 cu m each. The latest order brings its total VLGC newbuilding tally to three ships. The move follows Aygaz’s entry into the segment earlier this year, when it placed its first VLGC order at HD Hyundai Samho in January, with delivery slated for the second quarter of 2028 at a reported price of $119m. In a company statement, Aygaz said the new vessels would strengthen supply security and improve operational efficiency, while supporting a more sustainable transport setup through dual-fuel technology.
